What is RTML?
RTML Templates – the Foundation of your Yahoo Store
RTML is the proprietary computer language used to build all Yahoo Stores. Some say that RTML is an acronym for "Real-time Markup Language" while others say it refers to Robert T. Morris, one of the co-founders of Viaweb, the company Yahoo! acquired in 1995. Viaweb's powerful eCommerce platform went on to become the solid foundation for building Yahoo Stores.
RTML programming evolved from the older LISP and SGML languages. Developers use browsers to edit RTML templates which, in turn, outputs HTML code. RTML is template-based language and can create entire websites with extremely rich features.
Why is RTML so ideal for Yahoo Store eCommerce?
- It's powerful and can define both the form & function of entire websites
- It's convenient and includes a library of useful CGI scripts
- It generates HTML code, so its output can be viewed in any browser
- It easily creates images & text; a button bar in only 30 lines of code, for example
- It supports tags, variables, conditionals, math operators, iterations, subroutines and many other powerful functions
- It has a built-in editor that can customize Yahoo Store templates
At iWebSquare, we 'live & breathe' RTML and use it daily to build powerful & responsive Yahoo Stores for our clients… may we build one for you?
